Clint Eastwood is something of a legend, still acting and making movies at the age of 91. This one involves him throwing a punch and getting on a horse for the first time since “Unforgiven” three decades ago. “Cry Macho” is rather different from Eastwood's past movies, more sweet-natured and earnest and quite different from his 'Dirty Harry' series and westerns. Although variously described in reviews as 'slow' and 'dull', really this is such a beautiful and gentle movie, and the more you enter into it the more you appreciate its subtleties. It really shows the power of mentoring someone, as Eastwood's character Mike, “a broken-down ex-rodeo guy,” travels to Mexico City to bring back his employer's thirteen-year-old son, Rafa. On their way back, he tries to teach the young boy the true meaning of being a good person. The screenplay is by Nick Schenk who also wrote “Gran Torino,” and “The Mule” and the late N. Richard Nash and based on Nash’s novel. "Cry Macho" which is set back in 1979 is in my opinion a masterpiece. Read full review
