A good solution for knowing when the tailgate is down.
This is an easy to install system with some flexibility on where to mount the receiver and magnet. I started by lining up where I wanted the red LED unit to be on the bed rail cap. The wiring then dictated the area to install the receiver. From there, it is a matter of making sure the magnet will be within an inch of the receiver when the tailgate is closed. Regarding the LED light - it is not a LASER beam! Don't get worried the LASER in your review side mirror will blind you. The pictures online simply show a light path from the red LED unit to your side mirror. The red LED unit is really just an LED light bulb that blinks on and off every second when the tailgate is not closed. Also, the receiver can be easily turned off for those times you want to run around with the tailgate open. Overall, this is a reasonable solution and a well-designed kit for letting you know when the tailgate is down.

Tailgate sensor is awesome.
I spliced a wire in to run the light to my A-Pillar so I can’t miss it. Not sure how long the batteries will last but could easily run a 12v-3v adapter back there. Only time will tell but I bet it will last a good year. Highly recommend.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Works perfectly
My husband bought a Silverado with a snap on cover. His only complaint was he couldn’t see if the tailgate was up or down. Luckily I found this item. It works like a charm!! There is a bright red blinking light that is directed toward his side mirror when open. Now he doesn’t have to worry about tools falling out.
