It was published in 1983 by the independent agency First Run Features, headed by Charlie Ahearn. Fab 5 Freddy, “Lee” George Quinones, the Rock Steady Crew, The Cold Crush Brothers and Grandmaster Flash among others, starred in the film, which was internationally significant for the development of the hip-hop scene. The soundtrack is still an integral part of many DJs in the scene today and has been frequently sampled (e.g. in The Genesis from Nas' first album Illmatic).
