Bought this as love war films, and I wasn't disappointed.loved how the films give both sides of the story's. didn't matter what side you fought for there were still hero,s on both sides.and was a great box set as price was basically 2 DVDs for one. Great bargain.
Two seperate films of the battle for Iowa Jim during the World War II. The first, Flags of our Fathers tells of the historic photo that overtook the USA with a sense of victory whilst some quarters used it for propoganda to signal how ell the battle went. It focusses on the battle at Iowa Jima, a volcanic island in the Pacific from the American side and then switches to the marines who were paraded through many cities in the US as those who were in that historic photo. Can they handle all that publicity?
The second film, Letters from Iowa Jima tells the story from the Japanese side with subtitles. This film was an eye opener from start to finish and goes a long way to explaining how in some ways, the Japanese ideology of dying for the Emperor irrespective of lives being lost and being able to defend an Island effectively for a longer period, was perhaps one important reason why they lost their war against the USA.
In my view, Letters from Iowa Jima was the better film of the two but both are watchable and perhaps historically accurate to a large degree.Read full review
