Reviews3 stars out of 5 -- “It’s clear the bandleader is emotionally invested in what he sings, especially his words to ‘The Death of J.B. Lenoir’ about the social-minded Chicago bluesman he had admired so much.”, 4 stars out of 5 -- "'Driving Sideways' is Taylor's instrumental showcase and, like the rest of the album, it entertains effortlessly.", "For 1967's CRUSADE, Mick Taylor contributed a decidedly West Side Chicago, Buddy Guy/Otis Rush vibe on guitar."

  • Excellent music from one of the icons of British Blues music.

While The 'Beano' album and 'A Hard Road' will probably always be my favourite John Mayall albums I think this one will have a good chance of claiming 3rd place. Mick Taylor is on top notch form and his playing is excellent, with a good choice of blues material by Mayall. I previously had much of this material on two vinyl compilations The World Of John Mayall Vols 1 & 2, so it's great now to be able to listen to this in the car, without the crackles :)

  • An interesting album showcasing some amazing musical talent.

The CD is excellent value for money and includes a lot of extra tracks. This was the third consecutive Bluesbreakers album to include a future guitar great. When the album was recorded few would have expected Mick Taylor to join the Rolling Stones a few months later. This is a very good blues album. The horns add a very slight touch of jazz to proceedings. The only downside is the vocals; John Mayall is a very talented musician but he's not a very good vocalist. This is a good album which is a very good showcase for all the musicians involved.
