Quickly sent and arrived in great condition. I’m new to Maigret, and the Michael Gambon series seemed a good place to start. When you are watching this for the first time, remember when it was made and what the acting was like back then. However, Michael Gambon made a great Maigret and as I got further into the series, I loved it

I like the series because it is well acted, you can actually hear the dialogue, unlike many modern plays. Michael Gambon makes a believable character with dry wit and many grey cells. The characters are well defiined and story lines clear. Absence of gratuitous violence - murders have taken place but are not 'in your face!" Great pity there weren't more in the series.

A joy to watch a TV series at its very best. Michael Gambon superb as ever together with a great supporting cast, excellent direction and varied story lines; also a high quality DVD. Would recommend.

This really is a fantastic series. I watched this when it first came out but I forgot just how good it was. Many great actors involved and for me Mr Gambon is the perfect Maigret. The only drawback of this series is they didn't make more.

Great period drama with authentic atmosphere and great acting, with Michael Gambon playing the iconic French detective par excellence. Well worth watching.

Faithful to the books and with a strong cast. The series is real treat. Whilst much of it was filmed in Hungary, it looks like Paris of the period. The stories are intriguing and draw you into the mysteries. Micheal Gambon is especially good as the thoughtful eponymous detective.

I saw one episode of Maigret on a freeview channel and was enchanted by the programme, and set about buying the whole series. It has been a delight,it recalls French life in an age gone by,the street scenes, the countryside and the buildings are very evocative. It appears to be the fashion nowadays for detectives, indeed everybody on the TV,to shout a lot and lose control, whereas Michael Gambon is excellent, portraying a calm and civilised person, like society once was before script writers decided ranting Neanderthals did more for the ratings, which sadly they do.For those who have a little more between their ears than the "Walford" afficianados,Maigret will be a joy.He also gets results!
