How you remember things you saw as a child is an illusion often shattered when you return as an adult. Doctor Who certainly is one of those things. That said the old Doctor Who shows were and still are unlike anything that have ever been created for television. No show has ever been so diverse in the range of stories and charactors created. Looking back, performances were a bit corny at times yet as a film maker myself I realise it is important to view the programme in the context of the times in which it was made and the various production constraints that affected it. I always remembered "Genesis Of The Daleks" as being a good Doctor Who story and to my delighted that it still is. The introduction of Davros made us aware of how the Daleks came into being . Davros himself proved a dark and deeply evil charactor. The performance is outstanding as his borderline sanity left one not knowing what he was likely to do or how far he'd go in his crazed vision for the future of the Kaled race. Tom Baker was two years in his seven year reign as the Doctor and was already very popular in the role. The DVD release of the complete story of "Genesis Of The Daleks" is full of delights and interesting info for any Who fan or lover of si-fi in general. This product is highly recommended. One of the good things about the Doctor Who releases is that we now get to see them better than they were ever shown in the past. My personal suggestions for you to enjoy "Genesis Of The Daleks" are: a- dust off your old telly with round corners and curved screen to get that authentic first-time viewing, b- view on LCD TV with the sound through your hi-fi or (my favourite) c- turn up the dolby surround and use a video projector to view on the big screen and see it like you've never seen it before!Read full review
