Powers Boothe's Marlowe is OK, rather than great. The same goes for the supporting cast, the TV direction and the short length (50 minutes) of the episodes. However, the series does make a serious effort with 1930s atmosphere, interiors and period automobiles. Boothe would go on to do better work in Deadwood and Sin City. Fortunately, Hollywood has given us many better Marlowes on film: Garner, Powell, Mitchum and, of course, Bogart.
Six great episodes from the short stories of Raymond Chandler. Powers Boothe plays one of the best Marlowe's ever. It is well made and very authentic bringing you back to the time in which it is set. Plenty of action. wise quips and very entertaining.
