Additional InformationIt is 2019 and genetically made beings known as replicants exist as slaves and prostitutes in the off-planet colonies. Despite possessing such human traits as intelligence and virtual emotion, they are limited by a four-year life span which forces them to question their mortality. Four escaped replicants, led by Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer, THE HITCHER), arrive in Los Angeles to confront their designer, Eldon Tyrell (Joe Turkel). Hot on their trail is world-weary assassin--or 'blade runner'--Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford, INDIANA JONES), who has come out of retirement especially for this case. His objective is to hunt down and liquidate the four renegade androids before they have a chance to exact revenge on their cruel human oppressors. In the course of his search, Deckard becomes romantically entangled with Tyrell's lovely assistant Rachael (Sean Young)--who may not be all that she seems--and a dramatic face-off with Batty is inevitable. Director Ridley Scott's hauntingly prescient vision of the not-too-distant future is a stark revelation: a dark, polluted, overcrowded dystopia dominated by cloud-piercing buildings and looming neon billboards, the air dense with acid rain and flying traffic. Based on the novel DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP? by Philip K Dick, BLADE RUNNER boasts astonishingly rich art direction, juxtaposing ingenious technological gadgetry with yellowing photographs and fetishist objets d'art as it touches on questions of time, memory, identity, and mortality.

Better than the new Blade Runner.
We bought this Blu-Ray of Blade Runner because the NEW version of the movie was about to arrive at our local cinema. We thought we'd re-watch the director's cut to get ourselves up-to-speed. We thoroughly enjoyed it, and also enjoyed the THREE HOURS PLUS of extras, featuring crew members grumbling about what an impossibly awkward cuss Ridley Scott was throughout the entire filming. Then we went to see "Son Of Blade Runner" at the cinema. What a let-down. The charm and atmosphere of the original had vanished amongst a lot of fog, special effects, "Poldark" type mumbling and sub-Star-Trek style philosophising. I enjoyed ALL of the director's cut Blu Ray and can heartily recommend it. As for "Blade Runner Revisited, Son Of Replicant in The Fog" or whatever it's called... all I enjoyed was the popcorn. One of the all-time classics! And one of the best films EVER made.
This was a big flop at the boxoffice when it was released(much like the new film!) However, I loved it then as I love it now. The visual effects were groundbreaking in their day and they still stand up well now - no CGI in 1982!!! But it's the characters that are so engaging, especially that of 'Roy Batty' played by the excellent Rutger Hauer - he is the chief antagonist of the story and yet he is such a sympathetic character that instead of hating him you want to give him a hug as it is impossible not to empathise with his plight; at the end of the day all he wants is to live like the rest of us. This is a very thought provoking film - again as is the new one. If you are expecting some kind of space opera like star wars then you will be very disappointed. If however you are looking for a hard science fiction story with 3 dimensional characters and leaves you asking as many questions as it answers, then you will love this as I do. So good, how can Bladerunner hold up this well?
They say you shouldn't meet you heroes and perhaps I was worried about going back to this classice from the early 80's. I should have been and nether should you. Classic sci-fi movie
Blade Runner is one of those iconic sci-fi movies everyone should watch, at least once in their lifetime. Even by todays standards of special effects the movie still sparkles with moody atmosphere and incredible lighting. Visually Spectacular. Set way into the future in a high-tech world affected by global warming, in a City, it would seem, constantly raining. Harrison Ford plays a tough-yet-vulnerable character who is hunting fugitive, murderous replicants. The end scenes in this movie are very powerful and moving, fantastic acting.
