I absolutely love this DVD series. My children have started sounding out words and when my older one spells now, he says, "p-e-a-c-silent e". He's three. It's fun for the parents with all sorts of silly puns from our era--poking fun at Dick and Jane and Sam Spade. It's well-written and fun for parents as well as fun and educational for their children. Another thing that I really like and was surprised to learn was that the books they highlight are books that actually exsist. They may change the author's name to make it sound like the book title, but the book is actually out there, exactly as they read it on the show. (One example of this is a wonderful book, entitled "Caps for Sale" by someone with an unpronounceable name. They highlight this book in "Caps, Caps, Caps" and have the "author" Babs Caplin write it on the program.) Wonderful! I cannot say enough positive things about it and I have told all my friends that they need to buy a set for their children.Read full review
This is an AWESOME PBS program and I feel very lucky to have found a seller selling the whole season as opposed to individual programs. It is a great program for little ones and I believe even more timeless than Sesame Street. The program is focused around Jim Henson-like puppet creations that are Lions who run a library. The cubs are constantly getting into mischief and always learn a lesson by the end of the program. The lesson also includes reading a book from the library. These are generally popular books that our preschoolers thru 2nd graders are reading in the classrooms (Click, Clack, Moo and others). I highly recommend the series to anyone and it is a great addition to any home DVD library.
I've been a first grade teacher for 5 years now. I've always wondered how my 1st graders would learn the phonics in fun ways and attractive ways... and when I watched this one episode of "Between the Lions", I knew instantly that my students will enjoy the DVD and also learn a valuable lesson while watching it. My kids stopped watching Disney's Princesses movies, they like "Hey now~~~" and that's what they want to watch all the time. Academic rigorous Fun and attractive
I was doing some Christmas shopping for my son. He likes this show so I started to look into buying it. For some reason it costs way more than most dvd sets. I looked in several places and just could not find a price that I was willing to pay. Finally I went to ebay and found it for about $25 cheaper. Brand new and identical to the ones sold elsewhere.
It's educational.
