good for adding large externally powered HD to very old laptops
these serve a specific purpose. old laptops from the early 2000's that have USB1.0, and a PCMCIA card.
PCMCIA card slots are almost extinct, and laptops later went to USB2.0 and now they usually include USB3.0 ports. A USB1.0 is painfully slow to transfer files from a flash drive or external hard drive. the USB1.0 is great for a mouse, I have used these cards with very old Compaq M700. TO add an external (powered) 2TB Hard drive to make a good Karaoke/DJ system with XP. the file transfer would not work good enough with USB1.0. there is a plug in where you can borrow the power from the native usb port to
add power to this card, but starts to make things bulky . this device does not need drivers. The connector sticks out a little bit, be careful when storing it in a laptop bag. Maybe eject card and put it in a pocket inside the bag.
