I first saw the film Night Watch several years ago and was very impressed with the special effects, and the style the film was shot in. The only downside was that it is in Russian, but the subtitles are easy to follow. Day Watch is the sequel to Night Watch, and has actually been filmed in English. Great films, and in Russia these films are bigger sellers than the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Looking forward to the third chapter "Twilight Watch" to be made into a film too. If you have never seen these films, I recommend that you watch them sooner rather than later
These 2 films form a pair. They're much more like part 1 and part 2 than a blockbuster and it's sequel. Plot elements set up in the first film are resolved in the second. So if you're buying Night Watch (and even more so Day Watch) I'd very much get the pair and watch them in order. The films are very entertaining (especially the 2nd), but if you haven't read the books you can struggle to follow the plot and the world that's been created (especially in the 1st movie). This has less to do with the subtitles and more to do with the editing:- they've been cut down from TV series and set pieces and action have been favoured over plot and character development. It's definitely worth watching both movies.
The fact that it was in Russian and the white sub-titles on light backgrounds made it hard to follow what was being said detracted from the enjoyment of the films action was fast paced if quirky at times but as I brought the set a while after release made it worth having
Stick fairly true to books, and not to hard to follow even with subtitles. Night watch has a better plot than day watch which tends to drag a bit but day watch has better special effects. But all round a good box set.
night watch is in russian and you cant change the language , day watch you can change the language but dubbed so dissapointed in this purchase .
