Complicated and needs user guide to explain actions.
Bought because of recording options and HDMI to HD TV. I can record from Freeview TV. I can edit recordings to delete or split segments. I can dub from drive to DVD disk. Dubbing takes a long time for some recordings. Remote control does what it is supposed to as long as you understand the user guide at each point. Different recording quality options like XP, SP etc. Select recording title, see Edit then choose delete start to finish of segments, or divide now during the playback and pause. If possible, easier to record to DVD disk depending on Freeview reception.Remember to check for latest Freeview channels and retuning to get these. Use the front panel to get changes such as from Hard Drive to DVD choice, stop, play, record, eject disk. Check picture quality that HDMI provides. Check the input and output connectors are correct to then use the remote control input source. No ventilation holes on top of recorder. So I put a lightweight HD TV on top O.K. The Freeview HD TV helps to select AV input or HDMI input. HDMI quality is better for seeing text on the screen. Some TV shows are better displayed if switching to 4:3 mode rather than 16:9 mode, but remember to switch back to 16:9 mode later. I also use a Freeview HD set top box recorder with scart output to the DVD Recorder. So I can get SD and HD channels that way. I can edit using the Freeview recorder and time shift, too. I can also record my Freeview recordings to the DVD Recorder disks as backups. Using the Toshiba is not user-friendly yet still worth buying as a spare recorder. I prefer the FUNAI 250 GB Recorder 2835 model as being user-friendly as well as providing fast dubbing, too... but that doesn't have the HDMI output so that's why this Toshiba is still worth buying. Mind you, the postage can be expensive for such a heavy item.Since the Toshiba and the FUNAI have scart input and output, I can connect Sky or Virgin Media boxes if they've got scart outputs, too. So the VM TiVo helps me to access films and TV and to use the slow motion and pause features, too. Plus the VM subscription also offers YouTube as a separate TV channel. Netflix is a separate TV channel meant for subscribers to use. The Toshiba's HDMI output provides better playback for previously-recorded DVD disk recordings...Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

GOOD BUT IRRITATING.
Not nearly as good as the more recent Toshiba RD,320 model, which I have owned for several years, because of its arduous EPG programme booking system. However, the basics are the same on both models so, at least, I knew how to use it.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
