About this product

Product Information

Based on the Atari coin-op of the same name, Battlezone for the Atari 2600 is a first-person tank shooter. Your basic objective is to drive around the countryside, shooting enemies while avoiding being shot. Unlike the vector-based arcade game, which used a periscope as part of its control mechanism, this home version of Battlezone is played using a standard joystick.

By the year 1999, all the nations of Earth have banded together in peace (according to this game, at least). Unfortunately, a renegade council of military commanders has disrupted this utopian existence by unleashing a battalion of automated tanks, aerial fighters, flying saucers, and supertanks upon the unsuspecting world. At the helm of an old military tank you found in a museum, it is your job to squelch this rebellion.

  • Basic Atari port of a really cool Arcade title.

Looks really nice to display. Fun to show friends a box in good condition of a game this old. Wish the manual had color, but that's just how it was sometimes with Atari games. The game is also pretty fun, though I recommend trying an authentic Battlezone arcade unit sometime. (Not MAME Emulated, but a REAL one). Has a really cool double stick and head-set type thing.

  • This unfortunately doesn’t work...

Battlezone is a great arcade game, the Atari 2600 version is excellent too. I bought this, expecting to have no issues at all, it worked perfectly for a few hours, but then it started glitching up and cuts to black everytime now. I tried everything to fix the game, but sadly, nothing seemed to work. I think the main problem is that this was never taken out of the box after 30+ years of being sealed. The game itself is wonderful, and you should definitely play it, but don’t go after a sealed copy of the game, this applies to just about ANY cartridge game that’s at least 20 years old, it’s best to buy a pre-owned copy, since the amount of use it went through would make it more durable.
