Adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel from acclaimed writer Andrew Davies. Marianne Dashwood (Charity Wakefield) wears her heart on her sleeve when she falls in love with the charming but unsuitable John Willoughby (Dominic Cooper), ignoring her sister Elinor (Hattie Morahan)'s warning that her impulsive behaviour leaves her open to gossip and innuendo. Elinor, sensitive to social convention, struggles to conceal her own romantic disappointment, even from those closest to her. Will the sisters learn that sense must mix with sensibility if they are to find personal happiness in a society where status and money govern the rules of love?

    BBC Adaptation at its best. Super entertainment from the start.

    Once again the BBC have excelled in both adaptation and casting. Even if you are not a great fan of Jane Austin's books this BBC adaptation by Andrew Davies tells the story in such an entertaining way. The story entertains from start to finish.

    Austen at her best

    The BBC production are so good. They have done such good work on so many of the classics that we try to buy any that we see. Some of the more modern presentations done by others appear to think everything has to be updated, often with a more salacious content with more sexual overtones which don't appear in the original books. We have at least four different versions of Emma, three of Sense & Sensibility, three of Pride & Prejudice as well as Mansfield Park and many other "classic" novels. Certainly worth buying.

    A DVD not to be missed

    This BBC version is excellent both in performance and in casting. I have tried viewing other productions but have found them terrible by comparison to this one. The whole story is so entertaining from the very start with a very heart warming conclusion.
