What a wonderful and uplifting movie. I so enjoyed it from start to finish. I wish it would have had a sequel...but it as very inspiring and a good lesson to all about how important KINDNESS is to us and those we are in touch with. I looked at this several times on line, before deciding to order it. Am so glad I did. A wonderful story.....great writing.

Excellent acting and good production values for its time.
R. F. Delderfield (1912-1972), prolific British novelist and dramatist. His story about the life of a WWI veteran who returns from France, debilitated from shell-shock, to teach in a public boys' school in Dorset. If you appreciate lengthy historical miniseries with character development in a time and setting of social upheaval, you will like "To Serve Them All My Days." Subtitled.

Second time around
We watched this years ago when it was available on Netflix and were delighted to find it on eBay when we wanted to watch it again. The main character is hugely sympathetic as he deals with tragedy and small victories, and he is surrounded by a wonderful cast of eccentrics.

I liked the movie but the first disc keeps freezing up. I did not watch it as soon as I received it and by then it was too late to return it. Because it kept freezing, important details were skipped that made it difficult to understand what happened to his wife. I had to play the first disc over and over to fill in the gaps.

TSTAMD is a superb English period drama. The casting, screenplay, photography and settings are all that an aficionado of long-format cinema can hope for. My viewing of this set has inspired me to explore the literature of R F Delderfield, the author of the novel that the set is based on.

I have been a Delderfield fan for many years now and own all of his books. I was glad to see that this one has been made into a TV mini-series. It adheres closely enough to the original story line and if you are a Delderfield fan, this will bring back good memories of his works.
