Gotoh's Magnum Locking system is operated by a traditional thumb screw on the back of the tuner for quick and easy string changes. Magnum Lock with traditional thumb screw locking for easy and quick string changes.
I have Gotoh tuners on guitars made in the mid 80's and they still work, albeit with a little string slip on the 1st and 2nd, but hey! 30 years and still usable.
These lockers are exactly what you'd expect from the Japanese brand: smooth and precise.
Locking tuners are something I put on even my Floyd equipped guitars because it makes string changes quicker when there's less wrap to stretch and slip.
Don't waste the extra money on Schaller, you're not getting anything better and my personal experience with Sperzel has been poor, with low ratio and poor gears making tuning up a chore. Do I really have to say anything about cheap Chinese hardware?
Buy Gotoh and be happy.
They are more expensive than other locking tuners, but definitely worth the money. Hold tuning rock solid. Easy to restring using them too (remember to stretch your new strings once installed to bed them in!!)
I've no real luthier skills but these were a doddle to switch in replacing the original Jackson tuners on my guitar. They look great and they work brilliantly. No play or movement in them at all. Fast. Accurate. Stable. They just do what you pay the extra money for. Gotoh it!
