  • Car was smoky and no power

I got the 3 bolts out with a mix of tube spanner and wee quarter-inch-drive sockets and extensions. The top and bottom bolts aren't too hard to get at, there is one at the back, you can feel it with your finger from the top, and get a tube spanner on to it. The outer bit (solenoid?) came off first, still attached to the wires, then i could see how to get the electric connector off.... it would be easier if you get this connector off first. The actual valve was still inside the engine, prised it out with knives and wee screwdrivers and wd40. It was completely blocked with tarry soot. I had already bought a new one, it might have been ok just to clean the old one(?) When i put it back together it was still terribly smoky but it got a bit better after driving a few miles, i went to a garage that has a plug-in diagnostic thingy and he reset the fault=codes then revved the engine and reset the codes again and after a few times, it started running ok. Dunno if it was the resetting that did the trick, or if it would have come ok with driving and revving.Jake williams
