Plane, saw and sander all in one.
Probably not for a cabinet maker looking for geometric precision but ideal for basic shaping of timber. I use mine for roughing out walking stick handles saving a lot of hand rasping, shaping knees etc. when fitting out dinghys and for removing weld spatter when repairing boat trailers . These are all hobby jobs but I see no reason why this sander couldn't be used in light commercial applications. 5 speeds make it very useable, the belt takes just seconds to change and the on-board dust extraction system works well although the canister needs to be emptied regularly. This only takes seconds so I don't regard it as a problem. One word of warning. Always use the lowest speed necessary as this little sander removes material deceptively quickly, especially after fitting a new belt. All in all a very useful addition to my range of tools which saves a lot of time, particularly in the early stages of many jobs. I'd recommend this sander to any keen hobbyist as being extremely versatile, a great time saver and excellent value for money at round about forty quid.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

No good for metalwork
I found this power file totally unsuitable for my application which was tidying/ smoothing welds. The black and decker has a rubber wheel at the front of the sander which literally wore away after10 mins useage. I also use Sikverline power file in the same application and it works fine, it has a metal wheel at the front and does not suffer the same issue. Black and decker unit maybe fine fir wood soft plastics but not metal. Poorly designed product

Makes to much noise, comes with only 1 attachment... and only 3 belts..
After all the product is unique it can do jobs that no other toll can.. it is versatile and has long cord, it removes material very fast and can go into hard places.. and its dust collect chamber works pretty good(only for wood) The bed part is that it makes more noise then a bloody grinder and I hope that mine isn't defective.. the lowest speed is already very high. it comes with only 1 attachment out of 3! lastly if you fail to remove dust collector and work on still the metal will destroy the dust collector and you are screwed..Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Excellent machine - easy to use and reasonably priced.
This is an awesome piece of kit!! I bought it to remove paint, from floorboards, under the radiator pipes and it did just that. It managed to get into places my delta sander could not. A word of warning though you may need to practise using it on some offcuts of wood or whatever you intend to sand - I managed to gouge the floorboards when first using it; this was down to a combination of low grit sanding paper and a high speed setting on the tool. Once I changed the sand-paper to a higher grit rating and lowered the speed it was OK. With the use any tool, familiarity is important along with knowing any limitations. In a nutshell it did the job and did it well. I bought it for the one job mentioned above - sure I will find other uses for it (it's a man thing!). One for the manufacturers, if they read this, could the speed control be changed so that it goes from zero to full speed?Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Best of the bunch
I have just purchased my second Powerfile having worn my first one out ! It sits nicely in your hand , is not too heavy and has the little filter which catches some of the dust ! I have used it on metal but its mostly wood i use it on being a hobbyist guitar maker. I bought the 6mm arm which is perfect for getting in thin places, just split a normal belt and away you go . I don't know how I managed without one of these powerfiles before..... makes short work of smoothing and polishing the steel and welds. I also bought a bundle of the blue grit bands which last a long time. Invaluable Tool
I have had an old Black and Decker power file/power belt sander for many years and have been very pleased with it. Recently it has been a bit erratic, throwing belts off and suffering with the rubber drive and guard and the pads have worn.
