After a successful tour across the United States in 1969, the Rolling Stones gave a free December concert at Altamont Speedway in California with the Grateful Dead (not seen performing), Ike and Tina Turner, Jefferson Airplane, and the Flying Burrito Brothers (all seen performing one song each). The poorly planned show was fraught with problems from its inception. The band unwisely selected the Hells Angels motorcycle club to provide security, and after the pre-existing chaos was fuelled by very visible alcohol and drug abuse, the bikers resorted to violence to keep the stoned, restless, and often naked crowd in line. The result: dozens of injuries and the on-screen stabbing of a young African-American man (during 'Sympathy for the Devil,' no less) by one of the concert's 'staff security.'Product Identifiers

A great DVD for Stones fans and other music fans. A recorded history lesson of the fantastic 1969 American tour of the States by the Stones with great concert shots at Madison Square Garden in New York . Also great details of the shambolic planning and organisation of the famed Altamonte concert renowned for the murder of one of the audience by a member of the Hells Angels "security" team. Could have been so much better
If you want to hear the Stones sounding good in 1969 get a copy of 'Get Yer Ya Yas Out'. The recordings for the live album must have been heavily edited to make them sound so good compared with the performances on this DVD. If you want to know about the Altamont free concert tragedy read the published articles. The information given in this production is disjointed and poorly explained.
