A few tweaks to the new series. A great new actress plays a female cop, and some stories have a little more negativity. Remains upbeat family viewing
The upbeat, 1970s, family cop show continues into Season 2, with a few changes. The theme tune is given a change-up with a faster tempo and the introduction of sythetic keyboard. However, the incidental music is still distinguished, late-era big-band jazz. The picture quality is even better: outdoors, the quality is close to modern hi-def; indoors, the picture is a little more grainy. Grossman gets a bigger role, and new cop, Officer Cahill, is played by a strong, peppy actress, who is equally good the in action scenes and at teasing Ponch. As in Series 1, there is an authentic feel to the stories. Here, however, there are fewer amusing anecdotes and public service announcements about good driving protocol. For the first few episodes, at least, the stories concentrate on a somewhat hostile public: Mr & Mrs middle America want to sue Ponch & Baker (boy scout, Baker, is so upset, he thinks of resigning); a nimby sheriff tries to block an emergency convoy; typical high school students insult the cops; a tv reporter encourages reckless behaviour for a good story. One can sense the show branching out, while retaining the feelgood, upbeat feel, and I look forward to watching the rest of the series.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
