Even the older models are great!
I originally had my heart set on the latest SLC model with HD glass but I could not pull the trigger. Then I saw this brand new- in- the- box older model. Let me tell you the glass is great, regardless. I'm planning an elk hunt next year and I am happy with these binoculars. The HD glass would have been great, but I got about a $700 discount by buying an older model. The only con, if there is one, is that this older model is about 2 oz heavier than the newer models. This one is about 30 oz, but since I plan to buy a good bino harness, I can tolerate 2 additional ounces. This is much better than the Zeiss Conquest 10x42 that I looked at in a retail store. I was out at my deer stands this afternoon until dark and just before dark brought out the Swaros-great light gathering and great clarity considering that it was almost dark. Get yourself some Swaros! Money well spent!

Sharp, old glass
I purchased these because I couldn't afford the newest 10x42's. After receiving them, I was able to have both in hand (mine and a friend's), and I honestly liked these better, optically. The downside is that they're not as light or narrow as the newer models, but for me, that difference is negligible when I'm paying for the glass. These have a flat image that is crisp to the edges with excellent color. The eyecups stay in place and when extended, allow me to really press my eyes into them to block out peripheral light. No buyer's remorse from me!
