As you load each of your CDs into this changer, you can manually enter the album and track names. The product remembers the text and saves your information. This means you can jump from a classic rock album to a complication CD of classical music and know exactly who's performing a particular piece by reading the display. If you remove that disc and replace it with another, you can easily update the disc's information. You can choose which slot to insert each disc. The JOG dial allows you to rotate the slot within the changer and classify the album by musical group. Great for retrieving and playing numerous CDs, but concerned for mechanical ruggedness.
Although I do use Spotify and Amazon Prime music (with Alexa), I still like playing my numerous CDs. It’s nice to have this Sony 400 CD carousel, which is now paired with a Sony 200 CD player. It certainly beats having to search through stacks of CD cases stored in a cabinet. After organizing and loading the CDs, I created a spread sheet so location of CDs on the 2 carousels is easy. The sound quality of the 400 CD player is great. My main concern is for the drive belt and motor that rotate the 400 CD carousel. When it was half loaded, the carousel spun freely. But, now that it is fully loaded, the motor labors to turn the weight of 400 CDs, although it does work. I hope that this unit doesn’t break down.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Bought as a DIY repair
After working on these units, one discovers mechanical problems are almost always due to belt failure. I purchased a second CDP-CX400 to get our entire CD collection 'loaded up'. After replacing the 'melted' loading belt, 'melted' carousel belt and a good cleaning & lubrication of moving parts, the machine operates perfectly. The belts can be found and purchased on eBay and other online suppliers. This unit has a total of three, a CD loading belt, a carousel drive belt & a door open/close belt. There are YouTube videos showing how to replace the belts. The two CDP-CX400 units work together using a 3.5mm mini-plug male-male monaural control cable but a standard 3.5mm mini-plug male-male stereo cable will work. Both units can be managed with a single RM-DX400 remote which is convenient. The only thing that was 'non-intuitive' was that the second CDP-CX400 had to be set to CD3 (not CD2) for whatever reason (the manual has all the instructions). I refurbish these players. Search for the model number and repair, refurbish, or refurbished.
These players were built to last. Like anything, some do fail but they can be repaired. After refurbishment, you have the next best thing to a new player, which are no longer in production. I bought this one as "for parts or not working" and it appears that part of the loading mechanism broke. I recognize the piece that came with the player. It will soon be good as new and up for sale. You can send me your player to be repaired also. Just ask. Or if you are mechanically inclined, check my parts listing for the instructions on replacing the belts. The very best CD changer that has ever been made!
I now own for of the Sony CDP-CX400 changers and they are all phenomenally fantastic at what they were designed to do. Being able to put 800 of my compact discs into two of them and have them X-Fade back and forth between units so that there is never an interruption in the music is the absolute best 'radio station' I've ever listened to.
