For less than fifty quid, probably easier option for me than trying to find the break in the old one
The boot wiring loom appears to be an Achilles Heel of the Volvo S40 mk II, due to it being folded 180 degrees when the boot is closed. There is no other way of opening the boot if one of the wires activating the release eventually breaks through fatigue - except for crawling into the boot space - limited by the restricted opening behind the fold-down back seats & removing various bits of trim. I wish we had the anti-child/kidnap release cable fitted to Stateside models - it would have made the job a lot easier. Rather than attempt to repair the existing loom, I opted for this new genuine Volvo item. it was a lot easier to fit than it was removing the old one. It just slotted into place, with all the little atached cable clips popping perfectly into place.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Volvo S40 boot failure.
If you have a Volvo S40 and the boot won't open, the original boot loom has probably failed. In order to avoid having to fold the rear seats down, crawl under the boot lid and operate the solenoid manually with a charge from some source each time you want to open the boot, fit a new loom.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
