Does more than the old neon testing screwdriver did
Has a little coin cell plus some electronics and an LED so as well as a check for live mains like a neon tester it can check continuity of fuses, give an indication of whether an AA type battery has some charge in it, plus non contact detection of mains electric current - like from a live wire behind a wall switch. Finally it has microwave leakage but I have not tried that. Only improvement would be a better LED as the red light tends to shine down to the tip of the screwdriver rather than out sideways as my previous (lost that one) did making it not too easy to see in bright light. It does about half it claims it can
It might be me, but I couldn't make this pen do half of what it claims on the package. It says that it can tell you if there is power in a cable by tracing it, so I switched on the kettle and tried to trace it, but nothing showed up. I also tried with the iron, and the same result. There are other claims there I couldn't reproduce. Ok, here is sthg positive about it: the neon light is good, ie highly visible, probably even with the sun shining on it! Well done for that. Extremely handy
I have carried one of these in my pocket since discovering them many years ago. This is the FET based design which gets brighter if the tip is more positive than the cap. Very useful for a number of quick fault- finding tests but learn its behaviour as it is very sensitive and you always need to check against a known condition. This particular test screwdriver with the blue tint is the better quality version given that they are all Chinese anyhow. Extremely useful around the house for anything electrical.

Electrical test screwdriver has good s/c test
Apart from the usual "mains live" test - and it's quite sensitive, it's ability to test for short circuit (conduction) for example in a fuse, lamp or circuit makes it invaluable. And it's a good screwdriver, well made.
