Legend lives up to the hype
I've owned various Shure, Studio Projects microphones. The U87 is a whole different level, and certainly lives up to its legendary reputation. You may not appreciate it fully if you do not use a professional grade microphone preamp, I definitely recommend a Neve or API for this legend. Please note the serial number of Neumann you buy if buying used, the newer it is the less likely there is any electronic degradation or 'funk accumulation' on the diaphragm from heavy use. The sound is pure bliss. I listened to Peluso, cheaper Neumanns, youtube shootouts, and resorted to blind shoot outs and I was always picking U87. The only downside I can see is it is so expensive and the horror of dropping it or knocking over the mic stand is....daunting.

Microphone
The microphone has a constant static noise and cuts in and out . I was very disappointed!! I sent it to Neumann to repair it and am waiting for a cost estimate!!
