Better than expected
I Purchased A Grundig GTN38250HGCW A++ as an upgrade from a 10 year old condensing C grand tumble dryer.
I'm was very nervous about buying a new tumble dryer with a new type of technology, but after watching a few videos on how it works on you tube I decided to give it a go.
Ok so the first thing to understand before purchasing a heat pump tumble dryer is that it will take longer to dry your cloths !
Once you accept that you will get on ok with it !
My old C Grade tumble dryer would take about 110 mins to fully dry a full load 6KGs ,
Great! - fast but expensive and it would always leave condensation on the kitchen windows .
The Grundig Heat pump tumble dryer will do the same load in around 150 mins to fully dry a 6kg load - 190mins for 8kg load
Grundig does claim that it will do them faster but this is restricted to 'cupboard dry- 60% dry' if like me you like your cloths to be dry when you bring them out they will take a little longer.
As for energy consumption- I hooked up my electric consumption monitor to the power cable and was delighted to see that it does actually use half the power of my old C grade !
Ok so so if I set the program to the "Cupboard dry /60% dry" it would have probable used a lot less power and Grundig would be correct in their claims of energy consumption but I wanted dry cloths so yes it dose eat a little more power but still it is a lot cheaper.
As for noise levels - well I've upgraded from a 10 year old machine that was very noisy so its bound to be better !
But I am presently surprised. I had read a lot of comments that said it was just to noisy. But to be honest for what it is and the job its doing I think its fine.
Nice things about it -
*Very handy light that comes on in the drum when you open it to see if you have left any thing behind
*the drum is covered in love hearts - buy one and see for your self !
*its half the price to run , no more feeling guilty about using it !
* very easy to use program selector
* NO more condensation on the windows
* it came with equipment to connect the water collection directly to the sink outlet (like a dishwasher connection under the sink) so I never have to empty the water container again .
* it has a brain ! If the program you have selected runs to long, and the cloths dry sooner then expected it will reduce its running time to save energy ( just make sure you set it to extra dry prior to starting the program )
*I am thrilled with it
Not so Nice things !-
(Everything has its good and bad bits)
*its heavy ! Due to all the extra technology inside it that makes it so economical to run it weighs a LOT ! It weighs in at 51 kgs !
I was able to lift my old tumble dryer up and out but it took three of us to manoeuvre it through the three sets of stair in to the kitchen !
* it doesn't have wheels so pushing the lump of the thing into its under counter position was difficult.
*take time and experiment with the programs !
The first few times I used it I thought 'what have I done!' But once I understood the new way of drying things It all good .
*the water collection container was a be a bit sensitive- telling me it needs emptying mid cycle.
-but we got round that by connecting it to the sink outlet with the equipment that was supplied with it .
* it has a second lint filter that is located at the bottom of the machine , this needs cleaning every 5th usage - we have
bought an extra filter so that one can be in the wash and the other can be in use - so we are never caught short .
But it can be annoying to have to keep on changing them and every time you open the sealed lower door a little puddle of water comes out .
In conclusion I am really thrilled with it -
It has its down sides but I think its a good egg
My parents and in-laws have also bought one since seeing how mine works, would recommend to all - ( but be prepared to change the way you do your laundry ) for the good
