Be prepared to do some fitting...

Originally, I thought that maybe it's because I have an aftermarket bolt, but I could not lock the bolt back. I was only able to lock it back once after 10 tries or so, and none after. I reinstalled the factory part, and the bolt locked back every single time. I then reinstalled the VQ part and it still failed to lock the bolt back. Comparing the 2 parts side by side, the VQ part that I received was about 1/16" longer than the Ruger part, but had the same 45 degree angle. After filing the VQ down to match the same length as the Ruger and being careful to match the angle, the bolt now locks back every single time. And, yes, the auto release function works. Well worth the time and effort of figuring out the issue and doing a little 'smithing to make it work.

Hyped Up Accessory...Doesn't Work Without Having To Keep Palying With It

I've seen reviews all over the internet on this Volquartsen auto bolt release saying how great they are and I also seen reviews saying the direct opposite. I installed this auto bolt release following the instructions and triple checking my work as well as making sure everything was cleaned first and a minute drop of oil where recommended and nothing but hassle trying to get the bolt to stay in the open position. After fooling with it numerous times and the bolt finally stays open, the process of the bolt releasing itself with a quick pull back of the charge handle works nicely but yeah nothing but a pain with trying to get the bolt to stay open. Watched youtube videos, read through ruger 10-22 forums on several different sites, etc etc and tried all of everyone else's steps of doing it but still does not work so simply like people are saying. And so not worth thirteen dollars for a mass produced stamped out part that's problematic.

  • Works As Claimed

Like many others, I got tired of fiddling with the bolt sometimes not releasing easily ... or at all. This is a very easy fix, doesn't make the firearm less safe, and you can still lock the bolt open when on the firing line. I'm sure Ruger had something in mind with the original design ... but I don't know what it would be. Some may think this part an unnecessary extra expense, but the lack of aggravation for me made the purchase worthwhile to me.

  • Bought the product based on previous experience

Easy installation, if you've had the trigger group apart. original package; easy replacement of OEM part. Hardest part was to make sure the spring arm was in place. Good color match for the silver receiver. Purchase was made based on positive experience with the manufacturer. Works exactly as expected. Install took less than five minutes.

  • A Must Have for 10/22 Owners

This should be installed on every Ruger 10/22 - so much easier to get your gun into battery. After all these years, and after millions of sales ...why Ruger hasn't upgraded the 10/22 bolt release makes no sense at all. It certainly wouldn't be an expensive fix for them - pretty easy... so, what do you say, Ruger?

  • Makes the 10/22 so easy to operate

I've instructed on a a lot of 10/22's over the years, and shown the various owners how to lock the bolt open and the complexities of releasing the bolt. I've just bought mu own 10/22 and I just love this auto bolt release. It makes locking the bolt open a bit easier, but when it comes to releasing the bolt - there's the magic! Just pull back, release, and you're in battery. Once hand, no need to invert the rifle, works like the auto bolt lock or the slide on most pistols - pulling back releases the lock and the action goes forward into battery. What a clever device.

  • Necessary modification for Ruger 10/22 action

If you don’t plan to replace your entire trigger group, at least buy this auto bolt release. Several YouTube videos show how easy it is to replace the stock part with the Volquartsen part. For less than $15 and about a half hours time, you will have a more user friendly firearm. To me, this modification is a “no brainer.” And, Volquartsen has a reputation that’s second to none. You’ll be happy you did.

  • Awesome addition for any Ruger 10-22 Rifle

This drop in Bolt Release is awesome. I love the 10-22 but the factory bolt catch release would hang up sometimes and I would have to wiggle it to make it release the bolt. This product is a 10 min installation. Its easy and works great, the price is cheap for what you get. Highly recommended for any 10-22.

  • Good Product But....

I receiver the automatic bolt release and replaced the Ruger factory unit. Easy to do. Assembled and the automatic release would not release. It stayed open no matter what I did. So I dis-assembled and closely examined the Volquartsen next to the Ruger. (Mirror imaged because the tag sticks out). The new unit was about 1/64" longer on the bolt hold section vs the Ruger. I measured from the pivot hole around which the unit functions. So I very carefully filed off some of the steel and reassembled. The bolt would mostly release but not always, so I filed some more off. Now it works every time. I have purchased several Volquartsen items before and found them to be superior steel and machining that factory units. This one I received looked no different than factory, and in fact, slightly out of spec. This was installed in the Ruger BX trigger group that is inside the Tactical Solutions X-Ring .22.

  • Does what it says at a reasonable price

It's a drop-in replacement part, it makes locking and releasing the bolt far easier to do. While the mechanically inclined can modify the factory part to perform the same function, some are less comfortable with that option. This part is very nicely made and is worth the price.
