No one can predict how long a thermocouple will last and therefore I always ensure I have a spare one next to the boiler. This is prudent even if you are unable to actually remove and replace one yourself as no doubt the vast majority of heating engineers charge way over the odds for a new one so you can just stick your one under his/hers nose and save a few quid. That therefore is the benefit of ebay vendors such as this who charge almost a trade price for a quality item and send it quickly and securely. This thermocouple is particularly good however as its pack contains fitting options (via supplied parts) that lesser one's don't. For example, the one that is currently fitted to my boiler came with just that small clip (bottom right of the photo) and not a brass sleeve and securing bolt which I much prefer. Those are included here. Fitting one just via the clip relies on gravity and so the business end can tend to be too near or too far from the pilot whereas that brass bolt secures it dead centre. Quick tip. If you do replace one yourself, remember not to over-tighten the nut at the other end where it meets the electrical connector on the gas valve housing.Read full review

The thermocouple was failing on my Jandy Laars Lite 2 pool boiler but the official spare part costs about £40 in UK. The universal thermocouple seemed like a viable replacement and actually works really well, at a fraction of the cost of the official replacement part. Highly recommended. I bought the 600mm version which just reaches but the 900mm version may be a little easier to fit.

Difficult to tell which boilers the various alternatives will fit otherwise good quality and value. Yes you guessed it didn't fit mine, but it would be obviously good value if it did. And again, I couldn't recommend this product, BUT ONLY because I couldn't be sure it would fit a particular boiler.

This universal thermostat delivered within 3 days worked very well with my hole in the wall log gas fire (Faber B11 Model Serene) and is ten times cheaper than the manufacturer's part which after 8 weeks from the order I am still waiting it to be delivered. It also fits well into the pilot light burner.

Old school universal thermocouple. Previously I was carrying round a battered old box with 50 accident TC leads in. Now I just have a few of these and 99% of the time they fit.
