Quick and simple but not 14MP and savagely crops photos
The description says that this is a 14MP device but it is actually 13MP (4416 x 2944 which equals 13,000,704 pixels). It also forcibly crops about 15% of the image area. I contacted Veho about these issues via their website but received no reply.
It isn't actually a scanner, rather a captive camera - there are no moving parts which do any scanning. But for that reason, it takes a few seconds to capture an image compared to several minutes with a true slide scanner that I have used connected to a Mac - pre-scan, scan and then the software spends another minute processing before the image is saved.
It's difficult to say how accurate the colours are from negatives as they are quite old, they appear to have low colour saturation but slides seem to be fairly accurate.
However, it is very easy to use and if you want a reasonably high resolution device to digitally capture your old photos and don't mind the cropping as well as being misled about the resolution, it is probably worth the money and is less hassle than using an actual scanner.
