Great mechanical & biological filter, not so UV feature
I have been using this filter in a 100 gallon aquarium with dozen medium goldfishes. As usual they are well fed 6x a day so I need a robust mechanical & biological filtering device, this is where the filter size excel in this purpose. The only minor thing is that the interior material is not rated for long UV exposure, so I only use the UV feature 1 day per month just to keep the electronic functional.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

I goofed up, did not realize it pumps water like a shop vac
I was looking for a small 5 stage external filter system with UV lamp when I ordered this beast. Once I got it in and read the directions I realized I goofed up. The flow rate is too high for the fish tank I have, if installed it would most likely kill the fish by stressing them out. So now I am turning the beast into a fish tank bottom vacuum cleaner. The idea is to make a coaxial tube assembly with a fine screen mesh, kind of like a dome microphone, at the nose to prevent any fish from being caught. The idea is the inner tube would source the water and the outer tube would provide the return path to the filter assembly, where the dirty stuff would be filter out. Superb Performer - Inexpensive and Reliable
The first 'surprise' one gets upon assembling and starting up this filter is how well built it is. It has enormous flow, huge areas for media and works easily and perfectly (& quietly). Cleared the water in a cloudy, 65g tank in hours. Plenty of room for all the mechanical, chemical and especially biological filtration media. Powerful, Quiet, Superb Quality, Very Inexpensive for Such Power
Very powerful, very quiet. Easy to prime. Easy to hook up. Did not leak nor vibrate. Incredible water flow. In fact, smaller fish 'blow' across the tank when they swim near the output! Fortunately many of them seem to enjoy it and 'play' in the currents! 4 huge drawers hold as much filter media as you could ever want. I was in the unfortunate situation of an fish-in cycle and was battling ammonia and nitrites for over a month. I had in the 1st tray; 1 coarse, 1 medium and 1 fine filter pads, 1 tray of biological media, a tray of carbon and another of zeolite. After the tank was fully cycled, I replaced the zeolite with more bio media and it quickly matured and I saw no ammonia or nitrites at all. I'll most likely replace the carbon with still more bio media. The 704b is filtering a fully stocked, 65 gallon cichlid tank at present. Almost nothing I can do that disturbs the tank leaves water cloudy more than a few hours. It seems very well buiolt too.
