Essential travel tool
We used this for a cross country trip in a rental car and were generally pleased with the results. The more we used it and tried various features, the more satisfying our experience. If you have time before your first use, best to spend some time reading the manual and playing with the features important to you. I am sure there are more features we did not use, but will save that for next time.
A couple of quirks should be noted. The address used should be double checked on the map before navigating to that location. We thought we programmed an address taking us from northern New Jersey to midtown in New York City, but the initial address we used took us to Queens, far north of our destination. By the time we realized we were not headed in the right direction, we found ourselves stuck in rush hour traffic and the detour was nerve racking. We pulled off the highway and reprogrammed using Manhattan as the city and received the location we desired. We found having a paper map useful as a back up on the road. There are limited choices for alternative routes, which means you must make manual adjustments. That feature was difficult to manipulate. If you select a route different than programmed, the GPS will not recalculate for miles and miles, meaning you receive repeated messages to make a u turn or go back to the original route. We turned it off in a couple of locations as it was too annoying.
On balance, I was happy we purchased this device, felt it was a good value and recommend it to others.
