Solid guitar, quality construction. If you want to add a few upgrades, it's about as good as they come.
I have owned an ML Phantom since 2000. It has been an excellent solid guitar that consistently performs well. When I decided I wanted a tremelo guitar I decided to see what Dean had, and found this. Not that this is super important, but it is an undeniably awesome looking guitar. But more than that, the neck through design, and maple top give it a solid feel and good harmonic resonance. The balance is very good too. I personally, am upgrading the tremelo to a floyd rose original German. The factory tremelo on this is the floyd rose 1000. It is made in Korea and does not use the same quality metal as the German, although it is better than the floyd special. The floyd rose German is their flagship model, and the density and quality of the metal all positively affect tone, on any guitar. That, some EMGs, metal pickup rings, and it goes from a very good guitar to an excellent guitar. Glad I got it.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

ML ‘79 a timeless classic
I’ve had several ML 79s but this is my first hard tail. Really great sustain with the string through and better suited for how much I down tune. I use a custom 60-9 set tuned to A# with wound third string. I really like Vs and use them primarily but the ML is much better for sitting. They are well balanced and can give you a V feel when standing. Stock bridge pickups are pretty thin on the ‘79. I recommend a JB or the like for upgrade. This is well playing guitar. May need minor adjustments with the tremelo to find its sweet spot. Stock pickups sound decent. It's the perfect tribute to Dimebag
