Sorry but I am too engrossed in pure unadulterated nostalgia to write a review on this item!!! No, seriously, this magical box set will transport (sorry) you back to the heady 50s & 60s when all looks to be rosey and a lifetime away from what we have now. Once you have viewed a couple of the films you just cannot help yourself but watch more!! These films should be viewed by members of the Ministry of Common Sense (Health & Safety Executives(joke))- they'd have forty fits at some of the working practices. They are a must for any transport and British social history enthusiast and well worth what I thought to be a rather expensive set at first but am glad that i have it in my collection. Sheer enjoyment!!
the films about the seaside could have been scrapped,i was disapointed that these films should be about steam train,and not about cycling clubs and sea sides, i have sold my box set on,and replaced it with the bluray one the best of british transport films 70th anniversary collection, yes this is much better buy,im looking forward to vol 2 of this coming out

I brought this collection because I thought it consisted of old films about steam trains, and as a boy I loved to watch them, and because of this, they would bring about lots of memories. I love all the old operational films, but don't like all publicity films about various seaside places. Because of this I would not buy this collection again.
I already have the first 3 volumes of this set and it was cheaper to buy the complete set than to purchase, the others in the set, individualy.
Having gone through about one third of the thirty two hours of film, I am most impressed with the extensive footage from (mainly) the 50's and 60's. Most, so far, is in black and white but the quality is first rate. The items covered are extensive, to say the least. So much of what I have seen takes me back to my childhood - long before Health & Safety took such a stronghold (note the lack of high visibilty clothing, hard hats etc.) There are also some excellent films on subjects such as days out, cycling, city tours, British Road Services (remember them?). For anyone wondering whether to buy or not, GO FOR IT! I am sure you will not be disappointed.
