ReviewsThe Los Angeles Times - A consummate entertainment that echoes the rhythms and attitudes of classic Hollywood, it's a satisfying throwback to those old-fashioned movie fantasies where impossible dreams do come true. And, in this case, it really happened. Twice., The New Yorker - One of the gentlest, most charming American movies of the past decade. Its subject is less food as something to cook than food as the binding and unifying element of dinner parties, friendship, and marriage., New York Times - JULIE AND JULIA proceeds with such ease and charm that its audacity is easy to miss, Los Angeles Times - A consummate entertainment that echoes the rhythms and attitudes of classic Hollywood, it's a satisfying throwback to those old-fashioned movie fantasies where impossible dreams do come true, Hollywood Reporter - JULIE AND JULIA is a mixed blessing. You enjoy vicariously many dishes, sample the good life in France and get treated to another Streep marvel, Rolling Stone - Meryl Streep -- at her brilliant, beguiling best -- is the spice that does the trick for the yummy JULIA AND JULIA., USA Today - Spiced with plenty of humor and affection., Empire - Deliciously funny and warming fare, for which the amazing Meryl deserves her ridiculously overdue third Oscar.
Additional InformationNora Ephron adapts Julie Powell's autobiographical book JULIE AND JULIA: 365 DAYS, 524 RECIPES, 1 TINY PARTMENT KITCHEN with this Columbia Pictures production starring Amy Adams as an amateur chef who decides to cook every recipe in a cookbook from acclaimed celebrity chef Julia Child (played by Meryl Streep) in order to chronicle it in a blog over the course of a year. Julie (Adams) is a writer stuck in a soul consuming job at a call centre for the victims of 9/11. To escape this grim reality she turns to Julia ChildÆs famous book MASTERING THE ART OF FRENCH COOKING, with the intention of bringing to life any of its recipes. JulieÆs new hobby is definitely uplifting but so absorbing that she ends up by neglecting her husband (Chris Messina). JulieÆs story then interweaves with JuliaÆs one - the renowned chef (Streep) is in fact caught during her permanence in France in the late 1950s, a moment that marks a pivotal point in the development of her culinary skills as well as the burgeoning of her passion for French cuisine. Streep's DEVIL WEARS PRADA co-star Stanley Tucci re-teams with the actress as Child's husband.
