  • To walk invisible

The DVD is invaluable if, like us, you were frustrated with the much-criticised sound quality of the BBC television showing. Having English subtitles means that none of the dialogue is lost and the viewing experience is much more enjoyable. The DVD extras feature interesting interviews with the writer and cast among others. The brief, fully-clothed sex scene is distasteful and unnecessary; Branwell's obsession and delirium do not require so crass a moment. Otherwise a superb production in terms of costume, characterisation and direction.

  • Well presented Bronte story

This is a well made and reasonably accurate presentation of the Bronte's, the viewer needs to be already aware of the Bronte's story to really understand it The depiction of the Victorian dirty environment shows up well, some of the dialogue in the conversations is a bit muffled and one glaringly 'silly' scene of flames on top of heads shown at the start and end spoils it a bit.

  • Beautiful classic to treasure

Filmed in Brontes locality capturing the whole ambience of their lives a round Haworth. All actors played the characters brilliantly, highly recommended.

  • Brilliant, Tragic and Heartbreaking .....all from a parsonage at Howarth

At last the real story behind the Borinte's home life, which was very factual and based mostly on all the letters written by Charlotte to her friend Ellen. Adam Nagatus brought home in the most realistic bitter sweet way, just how much affect living with a drunk has on the whole family, and the way he impacted & devestated the lifes of those closest to him, even serving as a muse for all their most enduring novels. To write what you know is so very true, and the sisters knew only too well, how they must make something of themselves, if they were to improve their lot in life. Hats off to Sally Wainright who seemed to get everything perfect...even down to the accent. etc. This fly on the wall drama to me, was the most interesting look in to the every day lives of Englands most celebrated writers, and in some ways, is even more interesting than the books, Wow what a novel it would have made, if only one of the sisters had lived long enough to tell it. Still in their silence......their letters speak volumes. Excellent viewing and very sad all at the same time..............more of this Sally please !!
