Unexpected Brilliance
This is not your "typical" drum pad. I suspect people who are looking to purchase one will have already learned a thing or two about its somewhat novel approach to sound making. For those first encountering the Nord...well...I'll leave the details for the manual but in short, this isn't a sampler or sample playback unit. This 6-pad module uses a variety of synthesis techniques to breath life into atonal and melodic percussion sound creations. The sound design palette is quite vast and easy to get lost in. There are individual (or channel) effects as well as a global reverb/delay. Add to these tools a plethora of parameters that can be modulated by strike velocity and you have an instrument that's expressive, dynamic and filled with character. It features 200 presets as well as a ton of storage for user sounds. Fabulous Machine
I have owned three of these over the years for use on various projects. The quality of the sounds are unparalleled because they are real time and not multi layers samples. You can alter the sounds endlessly and create sounds that no one else has. Don’t expect this to be a complete drum set although it can realistically create snares, toms and kicks with cymbals sounding somewhat electronic. The only negative I could scrape up is that the rubber pads show wear quite quickly so I recommend some sort of pad protector if that could bother you. You can see what I mean in some of the YouTube videos online. Snares and kicks are worth the purchase alone with the melodic sounds being phenomenal.
