Recorded just one year apart, "Live At Montreux 1991/1992" captures two performances by Tori Amos right at the start of her solo career, in July 1991 and 1992, at the famous Montreux Jazz Festival. These two concert recordings are the perfect vignette of her career, featuring a barely known singer-songwriter on the first performance as well as Tori Amos on the brink of her breakthrough, a few months after the release of her massively successful debut album "Little Earthquakes.

Reviews4 stars out of 5 -- "She doesn't disappoint the fans with rarities and covers, most effectively her haunting, dirge-like take on 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'....It provides further insight into an extraordinarily talented artist at her peak."

  • Great content, marred only by a mixup between the years on the CDs

Firstly: the performances are excellent, a great record of Tori Amos at such an early point in her career, the video is wonderful, BUT... someone screwed up sequencing the audio CDs: all the common songs from the two performances (Silent All These Years, Precious Things, Crucify, Happy Phantom, Winter) are on the wrong CDs - those from 1991 are on the 1992 CD, and vice versa. What initially clued me in was in the 1991 Happy Phantom where she forgot one word (one word!) to comic effect, but it's audible on all the misplaced songs in the different piano tones: in 1991, Tori was playing an electric piano, in 1992, a real acoustic grand. Quite a difference. One can just about imagine how this might have happened at the mixing or mastering stage, but less so that no-one noticed it before it went into production. So, one star off what would otherwise have been a five star review.
