About this product

Product Information

Husqvarna 966906738 features a combined start/stop switch. Smart Start and the fuel pump make the saw very easy to start. A carburetor air purge system removes air from the carburetor and fuel system for easy starting. Centrifugal air cleaning system removes larger dust and debris particles before reaching the air filter, reducing air filter cleanings and improving engine life. LowVib system designed to reduce vibration levels to the operator helps lessen fatigue. Inertia activated brake reduces the likelihood of injury due to kickback. The chainsaw is equipped with a forged three-piece crankshaft for maximum durability for the toughest applications. A transparent fuel indicator makes it easy to check the fuel level and a quick release air filter facilitates cleaning and replacement of the filter. The featured nap-lock cylinder cover saves time when changing spark plugs and cleaning.

    nice features

has the moxie for large logs, used it to replace my old saw 1991, not as big as my old one, but has the power I need, after all, me is not as young as I was.. used saws all my life. doing every thing. last 15 years running sawmill, and da logs were not small, 20 to 30 inch dia. hardwood soft wood, and this saw with 20 inch bar is as good as you can get. if I was logging I'd get a bigger model but one tank a day is about all I use in sawmill and this 50.2 cc has da moxie. easy start is nice, but I don't need it, (yet). If you cut your own fire wood 10 cord or better a year this is the saw for you. Husqvarna has proven its self for years in da woods.

    lost power, wont start.

My review is very similar to others I've read here. Out of the box, the saw looked just like brand new. Assembly was easy and straight forward. The saw started right up and ran great for about an hour. At that point it began losing power. I checked the air filter and it was clean, checked the plug and it was in good shape - it had spark. I swapped the plug and the performance was the same - it wouldn't reach full RPM. About a 1/2 hour later, the saw wouldn't restart. Tried changing the plug, etc, and pulled about 100 times - won't kick on the prime. I noticed that the button on the top that I was assuming was a decompression seems to be stuck. $300 paper weight. In the interim, I'm using my Husky 435, which is a great runner. Stay away from the 450, go with the 435.

  • Ran for about half hour and then died

Fresh gas mixed with the Husqvarna 2-stoke oil according to instructions (mindful of the ethanol content). Husqvarna branded bar and chain oil. I have owned and used many Husqvarna (and other brand) saws in the past 45 years (purchased used) and really was looking forward to my first ever brand new saw. Saw was initially a little hard to start, but it's new and cold, so I thought "no big deal". Once saw was started, it seemed to lack power and would get bogged down rather quickly when trying to block out firewood - granted it was an old oak tree and as large as the guide almost, but my old 359 would slide right through that stuff and more. About 1/2 hour into cutting, the saw just died. It was throwing good chips and I was taking care to not bog it out and keep the chain speed up - but, it just quit in mid cut. I tried to restart it and it would sputter some then immediately die. Checked the fuel and it was low, but not out. Let the saw cool off for about 10 minutes and filled both gas and bar oil back up. Again, attempted to start the saw. Sputter and die was all it would do. Tried to start it for about 1/2 hour (yes, I wore out and the son-in-law gave it a go until he was done and we swapped back...) Start, run 3-4 seconds, sputter and die... Went back up to my shop, grabbed my old, little Husqvarna saw to finish topping out the limbs and give the new, big one time to completely cool off. And again, no go... Same behavior... I did check the compression relief and it was performing as it should. We pulled the cover off and visually inspected the saws' "innards" as best you can in the field like that with nothing to work on... Nothing appeared loose or leaking - it just refuses to run. I'm unsure what to do with this thing now as I called a Husqvarna shop and they just told me to follow the starting instructions exactly every time. Unfortunately, we were doing that to no avail. They told me they would be happy to look at it for a "diagnostic fee that is not covered by your warranty. If, after diagnosis, the fault is found to be with the saw, then the repairs will be covered under your warranty. But the shop time to diagnose is not." I truly hope that this is just an aberration and that this one happens to be a lemon - it does happen. I pray this is not the current state of affairs for Husqvarna. And the warranty - if it can be called as such - really leaves a lot to be desired.

  • 450 Rancher Husqvarna

I live in Miami, Fl and after Irma, no chain saws could be found locally. My felled bottle brush tree was 24" in diameter so I needed a good strong saw. This model has plenty of power and starts easy if you follow the somewhat difficult pictograph instructions. I highly recommend for big jobs or commercial jobs as it could pay for itself in 1 day of use.

  • Excellent chainsaw

I had a Stihl for many years and they are excellent chainsaws. Finally it had enough problems with use that I decided to buy a new chainsaw. I did many reviews and saw that Husqvarna and Stihl are equal in quality and use. I decided to try something new and bought this 450 Rancher on sale on eBay. I have used it three times and it is fautless. Cut into trees like butter. Would recommend highly.

  • Excellent product

Excellent product with the worst instruction booklet I have ever seen on my life. This particular piece was totally mistuned. I took it to my local dealer who was amazingly helpful, tune the saw, made necessary adjustments. The leak in the oil reservoir is disappointing.

  • Very capable saw you need to keep on changing the chains on

Once you hit the ground with the chain- you can go to Lowes or Home Depot for a new one, as trying to sharpen it is doable but not much effective. Once you got dull saw- you'll have smoke, overheating, and then the thing choking. I had a bunch of non-starts and do think there's got to be a better saw out there for non-pros like me.

  • The 450 Rancher Chainsaw is just what I needed

After a wind storm, I had to take down and take apart a couple of big trees. The Husqvarna 450 powered thru without a problem. It's more powerful that I thought. It's also easy to get spare parts and chains, and get it repaired. Two thumbs up!

  • Great, powerful homeowner's saw

Nice powerful saw for tree felling, firewood cutting, clearing, you name it. Easy starting and light enough to use all day, but powerful enough for all but the largest of wood cutting tasks. Easy-to-adjust, side-mounted chain tensioner is great. I have the Husqvarna 435 saw, as well, which is slightly smaller and a great saw, but the added power of the 450 (3.2 vs 2.2 hp) allows this saw to power through the larger logs with ease. When I first started to use it after having used the smaller 435, the added power set me back; I was amazed at what 1 added hp could do. Husqvarna tools have served me well for years and this saw will be no exception. Great tools, great company!

  • good saw

Easy Start good light weight saw with plenty of power and features. I really like that Husky has added the tool less gas and oil caps so I don't have to go find a wrench to open either now.
