About this product

Product Information

Nintendo's 8-bit boxing sensation makes a comeback with Punch-Out!! for Wii, a fanciful re-creation of the well-remembered NES game that features cel-shaded 3D graphics and motion control options. Still striving under the tough-love tutelage of trainer Doc Louis, the diminutive boxer Little Mac once again hopes to fight his way up the ranks and take a shot at the championship belt.
As in earlier arcade versions of Punch Out!! and Super Punch Out!!, the player's perspective is from directly behind Little Mac, who appears semi-transparent in order to allow a clear view of his opponents. Although opponents and their quirks follow patterns similar to those manifested in earlier versions, the control scheme in the Wii version of Punch-Out!! is meant to be accessible to anyone, whether a fan of old NES games or not. Players hold the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk, one in each hand, and simply punch with their arms to make their fighter throw punches in the game. No matter how quickly or forcefully the player swings, however, Little Mac can only punch so quickly and so hard on screen. Mac can throw a limited number of punches over time. He can't overpower his opponents, so the focus is on getting the timing right to make each one of those punches really count.

The analog stick on the Nunchuk controls Little Mac's dodges, and it also allows him to throw uppercuts, if held upward as the player takes a swing. Opponents include such notorious and nostalgic favorites as Glass Joe, Von Kaiser, and King Hippo. Each is more intimidating than the last, but each has a secret weakness that the player can exploit. For true fans of the 8-bit originals, the game offers a second control option, in which the Wii Remote is held sideways and operated as an NES controller, with the D-pad under the left thumb and the "1" and "2" buttons in place of the "B" and "A."

    A true classic redone right

fun for the whole family. It's even fun when you lose! use the nun-chuck and wii-mote control scheme combined with the wii-board for a challenge and work out. it'd be an even better game if they brought back ALL the characters from the NES and SNES versions. the only slight downside is the controls could be a little more responsive.

This game barely even worked, the second I looked at the controls the gane crashes, and when I beat the first level the game crashes anyways, was this game even tested?

  • Punch out for Wii rant

I loved it. I played this game before back when I was in elementary school and loved it then(I even wrote an essay on it) but never beat it, but now I have. It’s everything I wanted in a Punch Out game, it has nice cartoony graphics, an awesome soundtrack and sound design, and fun gameplay that offer different styles of play that range from making you actually punch or button controls. My personal favorite thing here are the boxers, they have fun personalities and actually speak in there native languages, my personal favorites are Aran Ryan because he was really boring in Super but here he’s a masochist that cheats a ton, and his track is my second favorite in the game; Bear Hugger, another boring fighter that was super easy but revamped to have a fun playful personality and actually can be a challenge, also his music is probably my third favorite track in the game; Don Flamenco, his fight was fun, his music (personal favorite track) and personality are great, I’m also Hispanic; and Super Macho Man, his music and fight are fun and I’m originally from California and lived near LA. My only grip with the game is that some attacks are not easy to read or counter, due to attacks looking way to similar or not giving the proper prompt which makes some opponents in the game (Soda Popinski and Bald Bull) harder than they are. Overall I loved this game, it was fun revisiting my elementary school days and finally beating this game, if you have a Wii or Wii U and find this game for a decent price/condition I highly recommend it

  • A Wii Title Classic

Punch-Out is a contender for the title of one of the best games on the Wii, and for good reason. The graphics are good, the gameplay is compelling, and the characters are like able in their own individual ways.

  • Classic feel, Graphical overhaul!

I initially skipped this when it originally came out, thinking that it would be a poor quality game as many other remakes had been. I skipped it for years, till I recently bought it to have all three of the Punch Out games. Popped it into the Wii U and was very surprised just how good it really was! Its a nice update visually with enough new features that don't take away from the classic feel of the original games! I'd say this is one of the best takes on a classic game ever done!

  • A fun game and makes good use of the Wii Fit board and a nice modernization of original 2D game.

A very fun game. I got it for it's Wii Fit support. It takes some getting used too with Wii Fit. I haven't played enough to really master the gestures but it's still fun.

  • The Disc Works

I replaced my disc and it works. Thank you so much. I couldn’t beat King Hippo because my game kept freezing. Walmart sucks. $22 is what they sell old new games for.

  • Fun game

My ten year old loves this game. It is more than a boxing game. Each opponent does a combo of moves that you need to counter in a specific way to earn stars to beat him. This has brought hours and hours of enjoyment. Arrived quickly and well packaged!

  • Fun game with some added exercise

This game is really fun even though it is quite simple I haven't played it a ton but what I have does give a bit of a workout. Of course nothing compared to running or actually working out but at least you can have fun while being active. I would recommend this fun game to anybody
