This game is fun. It is just like the original, but with all the improvements that you would hope for. There is a great mix of new fighters and fighters from the original to face up against. The controls a fairly simple, once you read the instructions. You can even use the Wii remote like the old NES controller if you want. One thing I noticed that is different from the original is that as soon as you loose a fight, you can have a rematch with that fighter as many times as you want. The original game would make you fight another fighter to earn a shot at fighting that higher ranked fighter you lost to. You can also go and fight an exhibition against any of the fighters you have already faced, to get used to their fighting techniques and learn how to counter that fighters punches. Just like the original, each fighter has there week points and its up to you to figure out the best way to attack. The head to head fighting is also pretty cool. The more you dodge and hit your opponent, the more GIGA MAC juice you earn. Once you meter is full you get to become GIGA MAC, which basically turns you into a HULKish version of Little Mac. The graphics are done well and there are some funny little things that happen when you knock out an opponent that definitely make you laugh. If you loved the original game, then you are sure to at least find this game moderately entertaining.Read full review
There are basically two reasons I bought the Wii version of Punch-Out. One is that it is a fun cartoony game that is very close to the original one and the other is that it allows control using both the remotes and the balancing board. There are three modes of control. The remote alone lets you play like the original Nintendo using buttons. Remote with nunchuk connected lets you punch with your hands, but requires the use of the joystick to duck and dodge. Adding the balance board to this setup lets you duck and dodge for real with your whole body. The first two control modes allow for two players, while the balance board is for single-player only. In single-player there is a practice mode and a career mode that pits you against a succession of opponents. The controls are simple, but playing this game can be a fair workout if you use the combined balance board and nunchuk. The number one thing I like about this game are the corny graphics and intros. The graphics are, of course, less pixellated, but still goofy cartoons. The rocking 80's soundtrack is very fitting. There are a couple of minor downsides. One is that the controls lack nuance - ducking and dodging is an on-off kinda deal instead of a smooth movement. Also, connecting the balance board sometimes takes going through an extra set of menus. Still, this is not enough to seriously take away from the fun. All in all, this is another Wii game that you can just play without having to memorize a multipage manual. What it lacks in complexity it makes up in old-school charm and just plain fun.Read full review
This game is a cool remake of the old NES punchout series. The two player mode lets you battle friends or family members to see who is the best. I like that it has motion sensitive controls (and it was good idea to make it also use the wii balance board, but the input seems really slow and not very refined - while I'd give them an A for the idea, I'd also have to give a D for implementation...) and some strategy to know when to dodge/block and when to punch. After playing other "shape boxing" games like gold's gym cardio game that also has motion sensitive hooks, jabs and uppercuts. In Punch-Out you have to use the control stick to dodge and to change between hooks and jabs, etc. But over all it's a fun game and can be pretty good exercise. I use wrist weights and play the exhibition rounds for a light arm/shoulder work out after doing some of the other wii workout "games".Read full review
I purchased this game because I wasted the bulk of 1988 trying to knock out "Iron Mike" in the original NES version. The graphics are much better, but the jist of the game is still there, and even after 20 years, its like riding a bike to get right back into it and start working your way through the circuits. This game is just plain fun. The two player mode is also great, and my son and I have a laugh when little mac turns into "incredible hulk" mac. I paid $35 including shipping and am happy with that. I would have been disappointed if I paid $50 from the store. There isn't a lot of reply value after you get through the three circuits, although all the opponents do have challenges you can try. (like winning the fight without ever ducking, dodging, or blocking a punch)
fun for the whole family. It's even fun when you lose! use the nun-chuck and wii-mote control scheme combined with the wii-board for a challenge and work out. it'd be an even better game if they brought back ALL the characters from the NES and SNES versions. the only slight downside is the controls could be a little more responsive.

I loved it. I played this game before back when I was in elementary school and loved it then(I even wrote an essay on it) but never beat it, but now I have. It’s everything I wanted in a Punch Out game, it has nice cartoony graphics, an awesome soundtrack and sound design, and fun gameplay that offer different styles of play that range from making you actually punch or button controls. My personal favorite thing here are the boxers, they have fun personalities and actually speak in there native languages, my personal favorites are Aran Ryan because he was really boring in Super but here he’s a masochist that cheats a ton, and his track is my second favorite in the game; Bear Hugger, another boring fighter that was super easy but revamped to have a fun playful personality and actually can be a challenge, also his music is probably my third favorite track in the game; Don Flamenco, his fight was fun, his music (personal favorite track) and personality are great, I’m also Hispanic; and Super Macho Man, his music and fight are fun and I’m originally from California and lived near LA. My only grip with the game is that some attacks are not easy to read or counter, due to attacks looking way to similar or not giving the proper prompt which makes some opponents in the game (Soda Popinski and Bald Bull) harder than they are. Overall I loved this game, it was fun revisiting my elementary school days and finally beating this game, if you have a Wii or Wii U and find this game for a decent price/condition I highly recommend itRead full review

Punch-Out is a contender for the title of one of the best games on the Wii, and for good reason. The graphics are good, the gameplay is compelling, and the characters are like able in their own individual ways.

This is a good workout and lots of fun, all at the same time. I bought it because I need workouts that keep my interest, but also because I used to play Mike Tyson's Punch-out years ago! The only thing that could stand improvement is the lagtime and all the extra "story line" between fights, which interrupts the physical workout aspect. Many of these can be skipped through, but some cannot. Overall, I am very happy with it and would buy it again!
I initially skipped this when it originally came out, thinking that it would be a poor quality game as many other remakes had been. I skipped it for years, till I recently bought it to have all three of the Punch Out games. Popped it into the Wii U and was very surprised just how good it really was! Its a nice update visually with enough new features that don't take away from the classic feel of the original games! I'd say this is one of the best takes on a classic game ever done!
