A wonderful adventure story for kids
This was one of my favorite books when I was a kid. Set during World War II, it's the story of three fugitive, runaway children who travel across Florida in a sailboat, looking for an iconic shell they believe to be magic: the Lion's Paw. The oldest boy hopes it will bring home his father, presumed killed in the South Pacific. The two younger children, brother and sister orphans, hope it will bring them a forever adoptive family, and that it will save them from being separated. There are thrills, danger, and adventure along the way, and the children prove to be ingenious and courageous while still being children. A fine adventure! (Note: In regard to the missing father, there is brief mention of the Japanese as the enemy, as the story is set during WWII. I loved this book
As a kid I read The Lion's Paw several times from my schools library. Then having it at home in paperback. Even in school, I knew it was a book I wanted to someday read to my kids. I bought my son this same book so he could read it to his daughter. Not being able to find that paperback copy I have, I bought the hardback book for myself to add to my library.
