Reviews"A minor folk masterpiece, with delicate yet expansive instrumentation swooning underneath a voice that is achingly wistful and nothing short of jaw-dropping.", 4 stars out of 5 -- "This time the instrumental backing is more handsomely orchestrated, with each song given colour by the sparing addition of drums, bass, cello, pedal steel, banjo and fiddle.", “The album’s first single, ‘White as Diamond’, best showcases her expanded musical ambitious and the record’s pristine sound…”, "There's a powerful weariness to 25-year-old Alela Diane's voice as it dips and curls its way through her second album, woozy pedal steel glinting and shimmering all about her...", 4 stars out of 5 -- "There is a rare charm and deep calmness on the album's 11 innocent but never naive tracks....A spectacular step forward."

  • Pleasant but doesn't stand up to repeated listening

At first I was quite captivated by this but before long, the albums' weakness became all-too-apparent: too little variation, melodically and harmonically, from one song to the next, which, to my ears, quickly grew monotonous. Still, the sound-world she creates is a pleasant place to visit and subsequent releases may well reveal growth in terms of song-writing.
