  • Entertaining condensation of Dickens's novel

While this version of The Old Curiosity Shop is well done, personally I prefer the much longer BBC version with Trevor Peacock. In this ninety minute video I thought all of the main characters are a little miscast. Nell is not sufficiently young and fragile, Toby Jones's Quilp is not as evil (or as dwarf-like) as Trevor Peacock and there was not enough time to fully develop the characters. In short, I thought it was good but could be better.

  • Way too short.

The product, per se was fine. The problem is with the story in the movie compared to the book. Kit, who is the main character in the book, has this miniscule part in the movie. By cutting him out, BBC managed to get the story into one episode and in a short period of time...............My advice, wait for the mini-series...........mh
