The CD is better than previous issues - the sound is richer due to the remastering and the booklet gives comprehensive information about the the band and the album. Also, the CD itself is printed showing the original label.

If you like Prog Rock, you'll love this. I love the variety of the different types of music played.

Good album! Maybe not a classic but one of Genesis's best, from the Peter Gabriel line-up. Particularly memorable for the inclusion of the surreal hit single, I Know What I Like in Your Wardrobe, which is what I bought it for.

This was a present for my husband who is a big Genesis fan, so the rating is his. He is delighted with it as he prefers the early Genesis music and likes the quality of the remastering.

Genesis were one of the big progressive rock bands on the 1970s. Their early work was full of intricate themes and excellent skills but somehow their albums had a sense on insecurity about them - almost as if they were trying too hard. Their breakthrough album was "Trespass" and this gave them the critical acclaim and following that enabled them to record "Selling England by the Pound". From the open bars on the first track where an unaccompanied Gabriel questions "Can you tell me where my country lies" to the closing phrases of "Aisle of plenty" the is a confidence and assuredness about all they do. The album has 4 tracks of around 10 minutes each and a smattering of shorter ones so around 50 minutes of music squeezed onto the vinyl. The overall impression I have is of a band who know they can do it and are producing music which is complex - but not so much that it alienates the common man. "Dancing with the Moonlight Knight", "Firth of Fifth", "Battle of Epping Forest" and "Cinema Show" are easy to listen to and yet develop themes and complexity in a way that traditional rock does not. To all this add the humour of Gabriel's lyrics. Listen hard and the words have a cutting edge that crowns the music and adds to the experience. This album is also notable for the first time that Phil Collins takes lead vocals. Maybe that is not such a good thing - but skip that track and enjoy the rest - it may even make you want to hear more from this band!Read full review
