Enjoyable and Gripping Political Drama
A very enjoyable political drama. A good adaptation of Jeffrey Archer's book with some fine acting from all the cast, but especially from the four main characters. The plot is focussed upon four ambitious politicians vying to become prime minister, with plenty of political intrigue, underhand deals, back-stabbing and clever twists set within realistic and believable surroundings. The characters' goals and political power struggles are set alongside their individual family backgrounds, with their attendant dramas and scandals of adultery, blackmail, shady dealings and loss. Plentiful scenes of intrigue, twists and cliff hangers make for entertaining and enthralling hours of viewing over this ten part series. Although the series was made in 1986 it has not dated at all and could seamlessly be transposed into the politics of today.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
