This movie caught my attention when Lee Byung Hun was part of the main cast; the Bad it is. He was ne of my favorite Korean actors, so this just gave it a thumbs up. But when I first watched this movie, it was absolutely high-larious, and very outgoing and excellent. I thought it was going to be okay, but it was much better than most fighting movies; lol. Overall, I give a 5 stars LBH movie.
Great fun.

This is a wonderful film, which manages to take all the tropes of the Spaghetti Western, transplant them to 1930s Manchuria, and make them work in a beautifully bizarre homage to Serge Leone. It's in Korean with English subtitles, but I had no problem following the story, and I'm usually not very good with foreign languages. You know you're in good hands as soon as the first set-piece of the film begins, a wonderfully chaotic four-way fight aboard a train, combining all of the usual shoot-out business with spears, war hammers, and a daring escape by motorbike. Soon everyone's after a mysterious treasure map, which leads to a series of fights in a thieves market, confrontations between the different groups of bandits and a mysterious bounty hunter, gun-fights which add fully-automatic weapons as well as automatics and revolvers, and eventually a glorious chase across the desert with two bandit groups, the Manchurian army, and the Japanese army (with trucks and artillery) in hot pursuit. The only thing missing from the final confrontation is a tinkling music box, but even at the last moment there are a few surprises. And with the two-disk set you get an extended and alternative ending, more deleted scenes, and all the usual interviews etc. One final thing worth mentioning is that the two-disk set can readily be found for about four pounds from most of the usual DVD retailers - don't be fooled into paying more!Read full review
Great movie from a top class director - Kim Ji Woon. Great fun film - cannot recommend enough. If you like this movie check out his others: A Bittersweet Life, The Quiet Family, A Tale Of Two Sisters etc. All awesome.
