It is 1989 and Alex (Daniel Bruhl) and his sister Ariane (Maria Simon) live in East Germany with their mother, Christiane (Katrin Sass). When Christiane wakes up, doctors warn Alex that any shock could bring on a fatal heart attack, so he decides to convince his mother that her beloved Communism has not been overthrown, but is in fact triumphing over Capitalism; and Alex sets about recreating every detail of the old East Berlin in their flat.

It was a wonderful movie which had really reflected my childhood in Hungary. A lot of funny parts in it too. I am so glad that my 17 year old daughter has decided to buy this item for her Sith form history studies and that she has shared it with me. An utter delight, highly recommended.

Great tale of history in the making.
Good entertainment for politics nerds. A comic/tragic journey through the demise of the DDR. The fake 'news' bulletins chucked some humour into the mix of loyalty, Young passions and a bit of sad reflection. It seems the leading ladies illness and passing being a metaphor for the country itself. Wish there had been a bit happier ending though.
