  • Unique collection of Mike Leigh - totally original director

A good find! In 1973, I had the privilege of assisting with the location sound for Mr Leigh's 'Hard Labour' set in his home town Salford. He even wrote me a letter of thanks - that's rare! Never saw 'rushes' or the complete broadcast. For many years, that early TV film was available only on the USA tech standard - no play in UK. Now at last I have the programme, playable on my UK desktop along with his other classics. Recent cinema masterpieces - Vera Drake, Mr Turner, Peterloo - are not here of course, but Nuts in May is.

  • Britain's heart

Mike Leigh encapsulates all that is British, Nuts In May is worth it alone and is essential a guide to culture than anything I have ever seen. The only thing I would recommend beyond this is getting 'Meantime' (1983) to complete the set of early Mike Leigh.
