ReviewsRolling Stone - Stick your neck out for this Swedish horror show. It's a winner, full of mirth and malice....The two young leads are dynamite. And director Tomas Alfredson knows how to pin you to your seat, New York Times - [A] spectrally beautiful Swedish vampire movie....The film's cool is largely expressed in visual terms, in the enveloping snow, the wintry light and the cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema's meticulously and steadily framed compositions, Empire - The best horror film of the year, Los Angeles Times - In this sinister but gorgeous and compelling film by Tomas Alfredson, being human and acting human don't always go together, Total Film - Alfredon's chiller is moving and nerve-jangling. A vampire movie to nourish the heart, mind and fear glands, Daily Mirror - Brutal and brilliant. You've never seen anything like this
Additional InformationA well-crafted horror film in the tradition of Guillermo del Toro's THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE, Swedish import LET THE RIGHT ONE IN ably blends genre chills with genuine feeling. Oskar (Kare Hedebrant) is a 12-year-old outcast who is frequently picked on by his classmates. He dreams of getting his revenge, but he never stands up to the boys. With the arrival of his new next-door neighbour, 12-year-old Eli (Lina Leandersson), Oskar may finally have found a friend, ally, and first love. But Eli is no ordinary girl: she must keep her pale skin out of the sunlight, she can perform inhuman physical feats, and she has thirst for blood. The bodies begin to pile up, but Oskar can't stay away from the girl who has finally given him courage.

Based on the novel by John Ajvide Linqvist (who also wrote the script), LET THE RIGHT ONE IN is the best kind of horror film: one that transcends the tropes of the genre to become something new. This is director Tomas Alfredson's first foray into horror, and he doesn't hesitate to include bits of vampire mythology. But his background making comedies and dramas gives the film a surprising depth; the relationship between Oskar and Eli is tentative and sweet, even though their interactions may be surrounded by blood and violence. Composer Johan Soderqvist and the sound department create a fascinating palette of music and sounds that add to the film's perfectly chilly mood, and setting the film in a snowy Swedish suburb gives director of photography Hoyte Van Hoytema a starkly beautiful environment for shooting. Though LET THE RIGHT ONE IN is ostensibly about a pair of children, this is a horror film for adults. There are plenty of scares, but it remains moving and intelligent, a rare feat for the genre.

  • Darker and better than the remake.

To me this was better than the remake, i felt the remake was just a bit of a rip off with some cgi and bigger budget. i thought that was good film by them but it was pretty much the same film and a waste of time really and I saw that first, when I saw this version I thought its no different at all, so just a total rip off. i thought the actors was better in the original (this one) and I just enjoyed it more, Im glad I bought this film and added it to my collection, its a very good film and highly recommended to anyone with love for horrors and vampire movies, this one i thought was darker as well. Since there was no cgi in this it felt more realistic to me and they kept everything minimal and didnt go over the top with anything. Anyone looking for a film with a good story and likes vampire films are sure to love this. Highly Recommended

  • Powerful and compelling

I guess you have to list this brilliant movie as a horror but it is so much more than that........ I it moving, though provoking and powerful in a way that so many movies are not these days. From the opening few moments this film starts to pull you in by it's wonderfully clever screenplay and incredible cinematography. It never let's you go right up until the closing credits and will be a taking point for many months after you have seen it. Don't let the fact it has subtitles put you off, the screenplay is done in away that it will not distract whilst you are reading. You simply must experience this film so buy it now and 'let the right one in' to your blu ray collection.
